How do I know how much to withhold from my pastor’s paycheck for his/her benefits?
You may refer to the benefits bills you receive each month. The withholding items listed on the pension bill from the NC Conference are the Comprehensive Protection Plan (CPP) – Pastor, the United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP) – Pastor, and the Ministers’ Transition Fund (MTF). CPP and MTF are withheld on an after-tax basis. The UMPIP may be withheld on either a before-tax, after-tax, or Roth basis, depending on your pastor’s election. Refer to the Contributions Agreement to the UMPIP provided to you by your pastor.
You may also refer to the Clergy Compensation Worksheet provided to you by your pastor. The Clergy Compensation Worksheet will itemize only the pension related items like CRSP, CPP, MTF, and UMPIP. Insurance related withholdings can be found on the insurance bill from the NC Conference or by contacting a member of the Benefits Team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
