  • Practice leadership through the four elements of the basic pattern;
  • Receive and offer supportive feedback on planning and leading worship;
  • Explore and practice leading worship in a variety of settings, other patterns of worship, and multiple forms of prayer.

All participants are expected to read Worshiping with United Methodists, by Hoyt L. Hickman, prior to class.

Participants will also need access to a United Methodist Hymnal and a United Methodist Book of Worship. Your church or pastor probably has a copy that you may borrow. You can also access the Book of Worship online.

About the Facilitator:

Glenn Stallsmith is called to be a teaching pastor to the church, seeking to add meaning and understanding to celebrations of the sacraments and services of the Word. He earned his Th.D. (Doctor of Theology) degree at the Divinity School at Duke University, where he studied Liturgy and Theology and the Arts. His dissertation focused on a theology of corporate prayer: “Praying Liturgically in the Megachurch: Towards an Augustinian Model for Corporate Christian Prayer.”

Glenn is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, in full connection with the North Carolina Annual Conference. He serves as the pastor of Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, North Carolina. Prior to serving as a pastor, Glenn and his spouse Sarah, a public school music teacher and choir director, worked as ethnomusicology consultants in the Philippines.
