All laity submitting this annual report are certified lay servants. If you are also a certified lay speaker or a certified lay minister, indicate that below. Additional questions will appear so that one report can serve for all certifications.

Are you a certified lay speaker?*

Certified lay speakers are lay servants who have completed these six courses: UM History, UM Polity, Leading Worship, Public Prayer, Spiritual Gifts, and Preaching. To be active, lay speakers must also have an up-to-date background check and a district interview. Lay speakers certified prior to 2012 were under a different process and are not automatically active today.

Your pastor and church council chair will receive an email requesting their recommendation to complete your annual renewal.

Additional Requirements for Certified Lay Speakers

Every three years, certified lay speakers meet with their district committee on Lay Servant Ministries for an interview. The committee then recommends you to the conference committee for re-certification. If you believe it is time for this interview, please contact your district director.

Additional Requirements for Certified Lay Ministers

Every two years, certified lay ministers complete a ministry review at their church, an interview with the district committee on ordained ministry, and receive a recommendation from their district superintendent.
