Certified Lay Speaker
The United Methodist Church has a long history of laity preaching and sharing God’s Word from the pulpit. The certified lay speaker program exists to train, equip, and support laity who are responding to God’s call through the specialized ministry of preaching.
What is a Certified Lay Speaker?
A lay speaker is a certified lay servant who has received additional training in order to serve as pulpit supply in local churches across the conference. Lay speakers serve by preaching the Word when requested by the pastor, district superintendent, or committee on Lay Servant Ministries. Pastors interested in requesting a certified lay speaker should contact their district director of Lay Servant Ministries.
