About the Webinar:
In this webinar we will discuss myths and realities of aging, the impact of ageism, the diverse experience of aging, challenges in ministering during COVID, and how COVID-19 can impact the well-being of older adults. We hope participants will leave with a new perspective on older adults and some ideas as to how best meet their needs during the current pandemic.
About the Speakers:
Megan Smith earned her PhD in Sociology from Emory University and currently resides in Charlotte, NC. Her research and teaching focuses on the health, particularly mental health, of underserved and aging populations. She explores the ways that religious and community organizations support the well being of these populations.
Cynthia Hancock holds a PhD in Sociology from UNC Chapel Hill and is a Teaching Professor of Sociology and Director of the Gerontology Program at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. She currently teaches classes on aging and the lifecourse, families and aging, and sociology of aging. She also coordinates all of the community based experiential learning required of all gerontology students at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Hancock is the daughter of a retired United Methodist Minister but has a faith community home with Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has three grown children and resides with her husband of 33 years.
