Day of Discovery: Exploring Your Calling

Note: There will also be an optional information session, 1pm–2pm, for those interested in the 2026–2027 certified lay ministry cohort. Applications for the next cohort are due in August.

All Christians are called to ministry. The work of the church is not just for pastors—it is for all of us.

Join us for the Day of Discovery, a day to explore how God is calling you to serve as a layperson. Opening worship will feature Gateway District Superintendent David Blackman, followed by stories from Lay Servant Ministries district directors highlighting the paths of certified lay servants, lay speakers, and lay ministers.

There’s no pressure, no expectation—only an invitation to explore where God may be leading you. Whether you’re just beginning to sense a nudge or you’re actively seeking your next step, this day is for you.

What to Expect:

  1. Understand Your Options
    Explore the differences between certified lay servants, certified lay speakers, and certified lay ministers, including what each role involves and how certification works.
  2. Discern Your Call
    Listen for God’s voice through worship, shared stories, and guided reflection, and consider how God may be calling you to serve in this next season.
  3. Connect and Share
    Engage in table conversations with Lay Servant Ministries district directors and other laity to build relationships, ask questions, and learn from shared experience.
  4. Explore Certified Lay Ministry
    Join the optional afternoon session for a deeper look at the Certified Lay Minister Candidate Training Program, including prerequisites, time commitment, and the application process to discern whether this might be the right next step for you.

Can’t Make it In Person?

For those unable to join us in Garner, we will host a shorter Zoom gathering on May 14, 6:30-8pm ET to introduce Lay Servant Ministries and explore your next steps. While the online version will not include all elements of the in-person Day of Discovery, it will provide a meaningful overview and opportunity for conversation. Learn more and register.
