Every church leader needs grounding, encouragement, and equipping for ministry. The Basic Course in Lay Servant Ministries offers all three—whether you’re just beginning to explore your gifts or have been serving for years.
This fall, the course is offered in a new six-week format, on Monday evenings, Sept. 22–Nov. 3, 6:30–8:00 pm on Zoom. Each session is interactive with discussion, activities, and breakout rooms. Can’t attend one week? Watch the recording and stay on track—just let the instructor know.
Facilitated by James Bernstein, certified lay speaker and Capital district co-director of Lay Servant Ministries, the course explores these key areas of lay leadership:
- All believers are ministers – Understanding your role in God’s mission
- Discovering your spiritual gifts and God’s call – Recognizing how God equips you
- Leading – Guiding and inspiring others
- Caring – Supporting and nurturing your community
- Communicating – Sharing your message effectively
- Going into the world – Living out your ministry beyond the church walls
Register by Sept. 4
Cost: $15 (scholarships available for $5)
Participant Book, available from Cokesbury or Amazon
If you’ve already taken the Basic Course, consider who in your congregation might benefit from this opportunity. Many laity step into ministry because someone took the time to invite them. Who might you encourage to take this next step?
