In August, Tropical Storm Fred entered the Western NC Conference of The United Methodist Church. The Cruso and Canton areas in Haywood County received over 16 inches of rain within 24 hours that caused a devastating rock slide and mountain flooding, impacting over 800 homes.
The Western NC Conference began to respond to the areas affected and worked with NC Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NC VOAD) groups. They also invited Early Response Teams (ERTs) to help muck out homes and remove debris. Several ERTs from our Conference have signed up to volunteer.
As the early response phase comes to a close, the Western NC Conference is coordinating the recovery phase.
Here is how you can help:
Volunteer
Volunteers with any level of construction experience and licensed electricians are needed to help with Emergency Rapid Repair and make homes habitable for families to return home before winter. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the NC Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, Ann Huffman at 888-440-9167 or disaster@nccumc.org.
Download bulletin inserts or graphics to share in your church.
