We began a monthly series in 2022 to keep everyone up-to-date about the happenings across the NC Conference offices and committees.
Here’s an overview from 2024:
- We published 342 posts on our website and 148 videos.
- We sent 703 emails to our NC Conference subscribers about news, updates, and events.
- 1,498 resources were borrowed from the NC Conference Media Center.
- The NC Conference co-hosted General Conference with the Western NC Conference in Charlotte, NC. Over 1,000 clergy and laity within the NC Conference helped welcome guests from around the world.
- Conference committee members and staff met for a 2024 Quadrennial Orientation.
- 257 people attended Early Response Team training.
- Disaster Ministries opened a recovery center in Columbus County to assist families who are still in need of assistance from Hurricane Florence.
- The NC Conference assisted our neighbors in Western NC following Hurricane Helene, by sending 2,604 hygiene kits, 1,437 cleaning kits, 1,567 menstrual hygiene kits, 1,865 school kits, 26 travel trailers, 49 Early Response Team members, and equipment.
- Bishop Connie Mitchell Shelton was reassigned as the NC Conference episcopal leader.
- Episcopal areas were set at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference for 2024-2028.
- Laity Ministries welcomed 12 new Certified Lay Servants, 13 new Certified Lay Speakers, and 8 new Certified Lay Ministers. The Conference has a total of 151 Lay Servants, 63 Lay Speakers, and 37 Certified Lay Ministers.
- New Faith Communities embarked on a partnership with the Office of Clergy Life focused on an initiative, Empower and Inspire, that provides comprehensive support to a diverse cohort of newly appointed pastors across various stages of their ministry journeys. Learn more about how New Faith Communities worked with partners to co-create new places for new people to gather in communion with Jesus Christ.
- The Center for Leadership Excellence hosted 24 events in 2024.
- 20 churches joined the NextGen Children’s Ministry cohort.
- 16 churches, over 75 people, participated in Rooted in Love, a church hospitality program for rural churches.
- 750 people across the Conference have taken the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) since the program first began.
- The H.E.A.R.T. (Holistic Equity Anti-Racism Training) program launched its third cohort in 2024.
- The NC Conference awarded 353 grants and scholarships, a total amount $2,520,760.30 given, in 2024.
