This two-week course is for visionary leaders who are ready to respond to calls given to groups rather than individuals. Each lesson will help you find where to stand against racism and each activity will work on how to build community with others who don’t see racism as a problem. We will look at several scriptures as well as inspirational examples from the Civil Rights movement such as Charles Person and Carolyn McKinstry. The final assignment of the course involves creating a collaborative action plan that complements where your churches are in their community outreach efforts.
Learners are to pick ONE of two books for their required reading. Both will be used but only required to read one.
While the World Watched: A Birmingham Bombing Survivor Comes of Age during the Civil Rights Movement by Carolyn McKinstry and Denise George
Buses Are a Comin’: Memoir of a Freedom Rider by Charles Person and Richard Rooker
This course is eligible for 1.0 CEU.
