All participants are expected to read Social Principles of the United Methodist Church 2025-2028 before taking this course.

About the Course:

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the Social Principles of The United Methodist Church—the church’s effort to address contemporary issues it faces today. Participants will engage key areas of the Social Principles, including the Natural World, Social Community, Economic Community, and Political Community.

Learners will be able to:

  • Explain the relationship between the Social Principles and the Bible, and describe their roots in the Wesleyan tradition as expressed within The United Methodist Church as a “means of grace”;
  • Describe key positions of the Social Principles and connect their statements to the lived practice of ministry for individuals and local churches;
  • Create a hospitable climate for teaching and practicing the Social Principles.

For questions about the course, please contact Harbor Lay Servant Ministries district director Sandy Core (score@nccumc.org).

To receive credit for a Zoom course, full attention and presence are required. Whether online or in person, staying engaged with the group and fully focused ensures the best learning experience. Zoom classes are interactive—expect breakout rooms, activities, and group discussions throughout the day.

Thank you for your interest. Registration for this course has closed. If you believe you have time to order and read the book prior to class and would like to request an exception to register late, please contact lsm@nccumc.org.

We regret that we are unable to issue refunds or credits of registration fees.
