About the Course: This course will help lay servants understand and share the world-transforming power of connectional giving rooted in the biblical/Wesleyan tradition.

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of John Wesley’s admonitions—to earn, save, and give all you can;
  • Study various scriptures and how they relate to our connectional living, which leads to connectional giving and connecting to Wesley’s teachings;
  • Examine the ways in which an understanding of why we give and where we invest our resources is imperative to living our faith through the United Methodist connectional system;
  • Be able to describe the apportionment structure through the general church, jurisdictions, annual conferences, and districts, and how that relates to the local church and decisions made in the local church;
  • Become familiar with your own church’s apportionment statement and prepare a paragraph explaining apportionments to your church.

Order Your Book!
All participants are expected to read Earn. Save. Give. Wesley’s Simple Rules for Money, by James A. Harnish, prior to the course.

For questions about the course, please contact Allen Burden, aburden@nccumc.org or Vicki Ambrose vambrose@nccumc.org, Corridor district co-directors of Lay Servant Ministries.

To receive credit for a Zoom course, full attention and presence are required. Whether online or in person, staying engaged with the group and fully focused ensures the best learning experience. Zoom classes are interactive—expect breakout rooms, activities, and group discussions throughout the day.

This class has been cancelled due to low enrollment.

If you were hoping to participate, we would love to hear from you. Please email us at lsm@nccumc.org to let us know of your interest. Your response will help us determine whether to offer this course again in the future.
