Disaster Ministries serves as a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of disaster, fostering partnerships between United Methodists and others to help rebuild homes, communities, and lives. We are so thankful for the partnerships we have developed with state organizations and other relief groups.
United Methodist Committee on Relief
We are grateful for our partnership with the United Methodist Committee on Relief and the Duke Endowment. We have received $7.8 million in grants which allows Disaster Ministries to continue operations through December 2020.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross has awarded Disaster Ministries a grant of $250,000 to fund home repairs in areas of need. The grant has helped several homeowners in Cumberland, Robeson, Bladen, Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender, Jones, Onslow, Carteret, Craven, Pamlico, and Beaufort counties.
United Way of North Carolina
The United Way has also worked with Disaster Ministries in several eastern counties in North Carolina. United Way has helped provide materials for home repairs in Beaufort County, Craven County, the Coastal Carolina and Cape Fear areas, and also provided mattresses in Bladen County.
North Carolina Emergency Management
North Carolina Emergency Management supports needs in our centers, providing equipment for sites, supplies for home, and logistics following a storm.
Lowe’s Companies, Inc.
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. has provided materials and supplies for rebuilding projects. Following Hurricane Dorian, Lowe’s donated $10,000 worth of equipment and supplies needed to clean out damaged homes on Ocracoke Island.
Hurricane Florence Relief and Recovery Fund of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc.
Disaster Ministries has developed many local partnerships as well. The Hurricane Florence Relief and Recovery Fund of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. has provided funds for staff, housing repairs, and site equipment in Cumberland County. The partnership has provided Cumberland County the resources needed for our center to repair and rebuild.
The support of our partners has allowed us to return over 600 people home again. We could not help those in need without the help of our partners and volunteers. Thank you for your generosity and we hope to continue working together to help those waiting for assistance.
