Faith in Action: Join Us in Helping Families Return Home

Posted on

As our Columbus County disaster response ministry comes to a close in October, we are committed to finishing strong, and we want you to be part of it. Join us for Faith in Action this fall, a series of volunteer weekends focused on helping families repair their homes following several hurricanes. Our goal is to assist 20 families over the four-weekend event.

The event starts on September 13 at 8:30 am with Bishop Shelton and Cabinet members, followed by workdays on September 20 and October 18. Our final weekend of service will be October 25. On both the first and last weekends, we’ll gather for a Pig Pick’n to celebrate the work accomplished together.

Each Saturday, teams will work on a range of projects, such as repairing roofs, flooring, walls, porches, steps, painting, and other essential repairs. Volunteers are also needed to serve on Fridays to help prepare sites and materials and on Saturdays to deliver lunches to teams in the field. Whether or not you have construction experience, there’s a spot for you on a team, and your participation makes a real difference!

Spaces are limited, so be sure to sign up early. If you cannot serve on a weekend, weekday opportunities are available. Please contact us at disaster@nccumc.org for details about serving during the weekdays. If you are unable to serve, you can still make a difference by supporting the work through the NC Storm Fund, which provides the necessary materials to repair homes.

We hope you will join us in bringing hope to these families!
