Join Us Thursday to Support Ongoing Flood Recovery

Posted on

We are grateful for the quick response from churches and organizations serving at Saxapahaw UMC this past week to help the church begin recovery following severe flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal.

As the work continues, we are seeking teams to assist with disaster recovery efforts on Thursday, July 24, from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm at a nearby home impacted by flooding.

The scope of work includes mucking out, removing flooring, drywall, and insulation. Some heavy lifting may be required. With high heat and humidity expected, please take breaks, stay hydrated, and know that you’re not obligated to stay for the entire day.

Before arriving, please complete the forms in our Volunteer Packet and bring them with you. Also, be sure to bring water, snacks, lunch, and the following items:

  • Work gloves
  • Nitrile gloves
  • N-95 masks
  • A trash bag for muddy shoes
  • Reciprocating saw (if available)
  • Any tools you have available (please label your tools)
  • For other suggested items, see page 6 in the Volunteer Packet

For location details or questions, please contact Ann Huffman, the Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, at disaster@nccumc.org or 919-610-8018.

You can also support this work by giving to the NC Storm Fund. 100% of your gift provides essential relief and hope to those affected in the NC Conference.

Thank you for generously giving your time and gifts to help communities in times of need.
