Lead Teacher Job Description
5 Day Threes-Part Time 8:45-1:15
Duties include:
· Provide appropriate supervision and care to children assigned to the classroom. This includes but is not limited to supervision during play indoors and outdoors, monitoring the bathroom/diapering needs of the children, supervising proper hand-washing, providing first aid as appropriate, and managing snack and meal times.
· Create a lesson plan that details daily activities appropriate to the assigned age group. Lesson plans can be submitted in a variety of formats left at the discretion of the teacher. Lesson plans should be submitted to the Preschool Director on a monthly basis.
· Follow a daily schedule set with input from the Preschool Director, Specials Teachers, and Assistant Teacher.
· Prepare and organize the classroom for each day’s activities before children arrive.
· Provide play-centered learning experiences appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the children in the classroom. Adjust and adapt activities as necessary, utilizing information on developmental milestones and early childhood development.
· Assure that children arrive and are picked up from Music and Movement, Discovery, and Spanish classes on time each day. Assist specials teachers with any classroom management issues that may arise.
· Follow the school’s discipline policy. Never use corporal punishment or any type of physical punishment at any time. Strive to use positive discipline and Conscious Discipline approaches at all times.
· Communicate with parents effectively through the following avenues:
o Monthly newsletter sent home the first day of each month
o Twice yearly parent-teacher conferences and as needed/requested
o Notes home in backpacks for special events, field trip reminders, etc…
o Emails
o Facebook posts
o Share pictures through approved share site
· Manage the toys, supplies, and materials of the classroom. Follow set guidelines for requesting supplies. Report damaged toys or materials to the Director.
· Participate in ongoing professional development as outlined by the Preschool Director. Lead Teachers are encouraged to find professional development opportunities in the community.
· Attend staff meetings as scheduled by the Director, and utilize teacher workdays to prepare the classroom, lesson plans, and materials for the school year.
· Participate in staff activities, and assist in creating an environment of teamwork with other staff members.
· Define activities and roles needed from the Assistant Teacher. Provide supervision and direction to the Assistant Teacher assigned to the classroom. Allow opportunities for the Assistant Teacher to lead activities and use their teacher skills in the classroom.
· Work hours and days are defined on a yearly basis, and outlined in the Employee Contract.
Qualifications:
· Be prepared and comfortable to work in a Christian environment.
· Experience working with young children required. Three or more years of experience as a lead teacher preferred.
· Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or College coursework in early childhood education/development or related field strongly preferred.
· High school Diploma or GED required.
· Have or willing to receive First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certifications. Certifications must be maintained during length of employment.
Experience with Conscious Discipline preferred
