Scope: These movies are recommended for church movie nights for adults and teens. Although some family films for all ages are listed, movies targeted specifically to children are not included in this guide. This guide has four sections: Feature Films, Biographies, Documentaries, and Bible Dramatizations.
Copyright Permissions: Most movies are copyrighted works. Copyright law holds that these movies cannot be shown publicly without permission. Churches and small groups within churches are NOT exempt from this law. In order to legally show copyrighted films, the church should obtain a license from Church Video Licensing International that will grant permission to publicly show thousands of films from over 90 producers including most major studios and Christian producers. Based on Henry van Dyke’s classic, “The Story of the Other Wise Man”, a fictional story set in Biblical times, told in gently comic terms. It concerns a Magi named Artaban (Martin Sheen) who studies the prophecies and witnesses a sign in the heavens that he hopes will lead him and his faithful servant, Orantes (Alan Arkin), to the Messiah.
