How do we truly love God and our neighbor as ourselves, when so many of us bear trauma?
This six week introduction to trauma-informed ministry helps participants understand the nature and some common consequences of trauma, so as to be able to offer an empathetic and compassionate ministry of presence with neighbors and neighborhoods experiencing trauma.
Elaine Heath, a theologian, and Jeanine Heath-McGlinn, a therapist, survived a childhood punctuated by violence, neglect, and abandonment. Both have become more than survivors, and thrive as gifted healers. Through their individual and inextricably woven stories, these sisters share, both in their memoir and in this course how they pulled each other out of the hell of shame, fear, poverty caused by their parents and toxic religion. Their lives lived out of an abundance of grace and gratitude embody inspiration, hope and healing.
This course is based on six themes in their memoir, Loving the Hell Out of Ourselves (a memoir).
