$ Healing the Wounds of Christendom: Reclaiming the Good News of the Gospel (Academy for Spiritual Formation)

February 5, 2022 @ 9:00 am 4:30 pm

Many testify that their experiences of the Christian church have not aligned with these words spoken by Jesus. In fact, Christianity has been anything but good news for a lot of peoples and cultures over the centuries. It is no wonder that Christendom finds itself in rapid decline as people are leaving the Western church in record numbers. Yet the longing for the vision Jesus proclaimed is as strong as ever, and the world desperately needs communities of faith who incarnate the good news of Luke 4. What does that look like in a 21st-century context marred by centuries of oppression and harm done under the banner of Christianity? In a deeply polarized society, how can we bear witness to the way of Jesus – that countercultural way of love that has the power to heal and transform our world?

Join us on February 5, 2022 for an online Academy Day Apart retreat with Elaine Heath, author, professor, speaker, and innovative spiritual leader, and Juan Huertas, minister of proclamation and the practice of justice at First-Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, NE. Elaine and Juan will help us explore these questions and more while we engage the Academy rhythms of community, silence, worship, and embodied spiritual practice.

Participants will also be provided with pre-retreat content and prompts for reflection along with suggestions for going deeper after the retreat.

Space is limited. The registration deadline is January 30, 2022.
