Democracy as Climate Resilience (Creation Justice Ministries)

June 27 @ 6:00 pm 7:15 pm

Thursday, June 27, 2024 @ 6:00-7:15pm Eastern Time
This webinar is part of the “Faithful Preparedness, Faithful Resilience” Webinar Series.

Climate resilience is defined as Climate Mitigation + Climate Adaptation + Deep Democracy. But what is Deep Democracy, and why is it crucial for climate resilience? Join us for this workshop in our “Faithful Preparedness, Faithful Resilience” series to learn how your community can become a resilience hub by engaging in the democratic process. We’ll explore the intersection of voting, public policy, and climate justice with insights from our distinguished speakers:

• Dr. Kathleen Bonnette, Assistant to the Director and Events Coordinator at the Center on Faith and Justice and theology lecturer at  Georgetown University,  specializes in theology and environmental ethics. Her work explores the intersection of faith, policy, and activism, providing a deep dive into how religious teachings can influence contemporary ethical challenges.
• Chris Crawford is a senior advisor at Protect Democracy, where he leverages his extensive experience in public policy and advocacy to safeguard democratic principles in governance. With a background in law and a passion for civil rights, Chris offers a critical perspective on the mechanisms that can protect and enhance democratic institutions in our society.

You’ll learn how to advocate for policies that build resilience and how to construct a more resilient democracy for all. This session promises to be insightful, providing practical steps and theoretical knowledge for integrating deep democracy with climate resilience.

Facilitated by Avery Davis Lamb, Creation Justice Ministries.
