Office of Black Church Studies Webinar with Sarah Farmer, Ph.D. (Duke Divinity School)

Dr. Eric Williams will moderate this conversation with Dr. Sarah Farmer, associate director of the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning Theology and Religion. 

Before that, Farmer was associate professor of Practical Theology and Community Development in the School of Theology and Ministry (STM) at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU). As a practical theologian, she not only teaches community development courses, but also teaches in the areas faith formation, youth ministry, and transformative pedagogy.  

Farmer also served as an associate research scholar and lecturer at Yale Divinity School and helped direct the Adolescent Faith and Flourishing Program at Yale Center for Faith and Culture. Sarah received her M.Div. and Ph.D. from Emory University, where she taught as an adjunct faculty and co-directed a Certificate in Theological Studies Program at a women’s prison. 

Farmer co-founded the Youth Arts and Peace Camp in Chester, Pennslyvania, and worked with the Youth Hope-Builders Academy at the Interdenominational Theological Center. Her most recent book is Restorative Hope: Creating Pathways of Connection in Women’s Prisons. She is also co-author with Anne E. Streaty of Raising Hope: 4 Paths to Courageous Living for Black Youth.
