Hosts Dr. Scott Kisker, Rev. Kelly McCuaig and this month’s Wesley scholar guest Dr. Luther Oconer will be speaking on the topic of John Wesley on the “Fruits” of Repentance.
The doctrine of repentance plays a prominent role in Methodist soteriology. John Wesley named it as one of Methodism’s three main doctrines, along with faith and holiness, calling it the “porch of religion” that leads to the door (faith). At a time when the Methodist Revival was taking shape, he extended his understanding of repentance beyond the usual notion of merely feeling distressed for sins committed prior to one’s conversion. He saw its importance in the life of the believer and its implications for Christian discipleship.
