$ Precious and Honored: Spiritual Companionship with People Who Have Experienced Sexual Violence (NC Institute for Spiritual Direction and Formation)

OVERVIEW
Over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men in the United States will directly experience sexual violence in their lifetime, according to the CDC. The effects of these trauma can negatively impact relationships with family, friends, community, and even God. This two-session program will use lecture, demonstration, discussion, and role play to give pastors and spiritual directors background and resources for working with people who have experienced sexual violence and their families.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
- Understand the dynamics and prevalence of sexual violence
- Recognize how a history of sexual violence may manifest within a congregant
- Learn appropriate attitudes for receiving the person and their experience
- Practice prayerful approaches that may facilitate healing
Wednesdays 10am – 12: 30pm ET – March 8th and 15th, 2023
These sessions are available online. While attendance at both sessions is recommended, the sessions will also be recorded for viewing at a time of your choosing. Recommended offering for this course $110 and $60 for NCISDF students and seminary students.
