In my travels to various churches and events, I have had the joy of meeting several Christians who feel called by God to prioritize caring for Creation. It is life-affirming to me to meet such individuals. But without fail, I hear from these women and men that they feel overwhelmed by the task. It is too much for one person, or even one church.
We agree. This is why the NCC Creation Care Committee is committed to helping you, as individuals and as churches, to better do the work of creation care. We are focusing locally at Redeeming Creation 2023, so that we can help empower you, the local person at the local church, to fulfill God’s call in your life, in your community.

Redeeming Creation is a day-long seminar for Christians of all walks of life who want to better understand what it means to live in and take care of this world God has made. Our theme for 2023 is Inspire; we believe God is breathing fresh life into this world, and we want to share with you (and hear from you) where and how God is at work to redeem creation.
This year’s event is May 6 from 9:00-4:00 at First United Methodist Church of Cary (117 S. Academy St, Cary, NC). Can’t make it in person? You can now attend online! Fill out the registration form and you’ll be sent a link to watch the event live. Plus, all registrants will receive video recordings of the presentations, so they can watch and re-watch them at their leisure.
We have a great slate of speakers this year, including:
- Pat Watkins, UM Missionary to Creation
- Bishop Hope Morgan Ward
- Avery Davis Lamb, Co-Director of Creation Justice Ministries
- Josie Walker, formerly of FaithLands and the Black Church Food Security Network
- Rev. Jonathan Brake, of UM Global Ministries
- Carolyn Winters, of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church (Raleigh)
In addition to the speakers, there will be ample opportunities to network with like-minded individuals, to share with one another about your own experiences and ministries, and to deepen your connection with God and neighbor.
Plus, a wonderful lunch will be provided, made by a local chef from local produce and meat.
Fill out the form below to register, and we look forward to seeing you May 6! (And don’t forget to share this with others who would want to go.)
