“…then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
Genesis 2:7 (NRSV)
“And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the the entire house where they were sitting.”
Acts 2:2 (NRSV)
In the Bible, God breathes life into God’s people for the accomplishing of great things time and time again. The rushing in of God’s Spirit (in Hebrew, God’s ruah, meaning spirit, wind or breath) is what gives life and motion and power.
This is why Inspire has been chosen as the theme for Redeeming Creation 2023. The word “inspire” literally means to breathe into. This is what we believe God is doing to us now; in the midst of what seems like chaos and calamity, God is breathing into us, God is inspiring us, with life and motion and power to Redeem this Creation.
Redeeming Creation is a day long seminar for Christians of all walks of life to come together, deepen their faith, and renew their commitment to caring for God’s creation. This year’s Redeeming Creation is our first in-person version of the event, and we are excited about the face-to-face interactions we will get to have.
When: May 6, 2023
Time: 9:00-4:00
Where: First UMC-Cary; 117 S. Academy St, Cary, NC 27511
Cost: $20/person
Registration is required (see below).
This year we wanted to focus on what God is doing in and for creation right here in North Carolina, so we have lined up presenters who will be sharing from their own experiences. Speakers include:
- Bishop Hope Morgan Ward, leading a Bible study
- Avery Davis Lamb, co-director of Creation Justice Ministries, speaking on making creation care a priority in your community
- Josie Walker, formerly of FaithLands and the Black Church Food Security Network, presenting on community gardening and resilience
- Rev. Jonathon Brake of the General Board of Global Ministries, sharing his creation care missions experiences
- Carolyn Winters of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church (Raleigh) to speak about her work for environmental and community justice
In addition to these speakers, there will be ample opportunity to network with others who are ministering in creation care, and to share what God has inspired in you.
We hope all who can will be a part of this great event. We look forward not only to seeing you on May 6, but on seeing the new life that God breaths into your heart.
