“We want to do something, but we don’t know where to start.”
I’ve heard this over and over in my creation care ministries. The threats of climate change, environmental justice, food sustainability and a resistant culture can be overwhelming.
When I hear this comment, one of the first things I do is remind people that we are not in this alone. No one of us may be able to do much, but when we come together, God uses us in amazing ways.
There are three upcoming events to help you in creation care ministry (and plenty more on the way). Read below and see which ones fit your needs.
Youth Leaders Initiative
North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light and Interfaith Creation Care of the Triangle are hosting a listening session for youth might be concerned about the environment or simply interested in creation care ministries.
The next session is at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh on July 23 from 3:00 to 4:00. Please follow this link for more information, or reach out to Liz Becker (Watts Street Baptist Church liaison to ICCT) to register for this event at ICCTliaisons@gmail.com
Season of Creation Planning Workshop
September is the Season of Creation, a month we set apart to remind ourselves of the importance of caring for God’s Creation.
On July 29 we are offering a workshop for churches who want to observe Season of Creation (or any other creation-themed events). We will look at things like sermon and lesson planning, incorporating elements of creation into worship, forming local creation care teams, and being in environmental mission.
This event is July 29, 2023 from 9:00-12:00 at the NC Conference Building (700 Waterfield Ridge Pl, Garner, NC). You can attend in person or online. The event is free.

Mission Journey Preview Weekend
In collaboration with the Western NC Conference, we are launching a new approach to disaster response missions, one that looks at environmental disaster mitigation, as well as our spiritual connections with creation. The first collaborative missions trips will be held in Summer, 2024.
A preview weekend is planned for September 22-24 at Lake Junaluska, NC. This weekend is for mission leaders looking for a new project (and approach to doing missions) for their teams. We will cover disaster area surveying, eco-focused service projects, Worship in the Wild, and more. Cost is $75.
