When a congregation’s ability to redevelop or revitalize is limited, legacy is another faithful path that leads to a fruitful outcome. Congregations who are older and ready for less-active ministry can thrive with more focus on fellowship and better pastoral care. Congregations burdened with declining resources can thrive by equipping another group to carry forward the mission of Christ, sharing God’s love and hope with upcoming generations.
Our team can help clarify this path, to include:
Merger: Unites two or more local churches into a single church in order to more effectively fulfill their mission.
Closure: Allows churches to extend their ministry through future United Methodist churches and mission while maintaining pastoral care and ministry through membership transfer to a nearby church.
Transition: Provides space for churches with declining resources and desire for less active ministry to develop a legacy transition plan and timeline for their context.
Once a congregation reaches consensus for a Legacy plan, the Church Transformation team, in consultation with the District Superintendent, partners with church leaders to provide guidance and support in navigating their path forward.
