Members of the Conference Health Ministry Team virtually attended the All People’s Conference in 2020. The focus was on how to combat systemic racism and improve overall health for all people. The team plans to follow up by inviting someone from community outreach with our local hospital systems to address the conference health ministry team to explore potential partnerships.
Additionally, we have tried to amplify the voices of folks promoting mental health and providing coronavirus vaccinations, as we perceive this to be our largest health crises at the moment. Team member Sheryl Taylor worked with Chris Daniels, from the Conference Communications Team, to create an amazing video with Dr. Robin Peace of Robeson County concerning the need for everyone to get the coronavirus vaccine.
We have advocated for suicide prevention including team member Lindsay Collins’ participation in a Council of Churches panel and team member Ryan Parker’s design of a Community Clergy Training event through the Durham VA to raise awareness about suicide prevention within the veteran community. Our next priority is to advocate for the closing of the health insurance gap that exists in North Carolina.
