Youth Leaders Attend S.A.L.T. (Student Adult Leadership Training)

Posted on

August’s S.A.L.T. (Student Adult Leadership Training) training brought together 40 leaders and volunteers for a hands-on, heart-forward day focused on youth and family ministry. From start to finish, the sessions were packed with practical tools and relational wisdom—designed to help each person walk away more equipped to serve young people with intention and care.

The starting session explored how to make the most of a small youth group, flipping the script from numbers-driven success to deep discipleship and meaningful relationships. Another tackled the vital topic of LGBTQ+ inclusion, offering guidance on gender-inclusive language, mental health awareness, and how to create spaces where every student feels safe and seen.

Creativity and connection were woven throughout the day. One workshop showed how play can be a powerful tool for building community, using high-energy activities to spark joy and belonging. Another challenged leaders to rethink how they communicate—moving beyond announcements to invitations that speak to the heart.

The conversation didn’t shy away from the hard stuff either. A session on well-being reminded everyone that caring for students also means caring for ourselves, offering tools for setting boundaries and practicing self-care in ministry.

The day wrapped up with a Q&A panel featuring volunteers from a range of church contexts. Their stories and insights added depth to the day’s learning, showing how these principles play out in both large and small settings.

More than just a training, S.A.L.T. felt like a recharge—a chance to reconnect with purpose, gather fresh ideas, and leave with renewed confidence to lead well.
