When Strong’s payments ended in January, she had just “clawed” her way out of homelessness after living without a home for roughly two years. She had just started living with her partner, David, who also relies on SSI, with a sympathetic landlord two months earlier.
Once the SSA cut their resources in half, though, Strong and her partner could no longer afford it. But they have been able to stay thanks to her local church, UMC Riverside, which is helping with rent and utilities that come to $450 a month.
