“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Now you will see what I will do to Pharoah: Because of My mighty hand he will let them go; because of My mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.’” – Exodus 6:1
The colonists prepared themselves to rebel against the British king and the demands and threats of England. Leaders such as Patrick Henry made reference to God as “a just God who presides over the destinies of nations,” in his speech encouraging the colonists to fight against England. Being one of the most powerful countries in the world in the 18th century, Great Britain faced defeat by the colonists who gained their independence from England.
This historical event parallels the plight of the Israelites being subjugated to the Egyptian Pharoah. The colonists pose the same situation as the Israelites – subjected and controlled by domineering nations.
God reveals to Moses of His omnipotent power and “mighty hand” to force the Egyptian Pharoah to allow the Israelites to leave Egypt finally. Moses and the Israelites later witness the deadly plagues, death upon the Egyptians, and Pharoah’s mighty army being swallowed up and destroyed in the Red Sea.
God has demonstrated His mighty power and protection for those who love and obey Him from the beginning of time to the present age. We are constantly reminded of His power, grace, and love to instill in us to have faith in Him.
Mighty and loving God, help me to never forget Your sovereignty and power. Help me to continue to grow in my faith in You.
