“When Methods Die” Online Book Study
October 2, 2025 @ 12:00 pm
This book study invites participants to engage in a six-session book study, moving through “When Methods Die: The Writing on the Wall for a Fading Church,” facilitated by the author, the Rev. Dr. Jason Miller-Villegas. The study hopes to continue the conversation started in the book, moving from seeing institutional frailty and death to the hope of resurrection, guided by hope.
We will meet every other Thursday at 12:00pm.
Participants are encouraged to read approximately one chapter per week and, in the gatherings, talk about two chapters. This will go from October to December, avoiding holidays, with the following schedule:
October 2 – Introduction and Chapter 1 “Funeral for the Methods of a Fading Church”
October 16 – Chapters 2 & 3 “Recognizing the Ruins: Understanding the Crisis” and
“Silent Symptoms in the Shadows: Signs of Decline”
October 30 – Chapters 4 & 5 “Lonely, Grieving, Leaving: The Emotional Toll” and
“Attitudes in Ashes: What Must Change”
November 13 – Chapters 6 & 7 “Prophetic Whispers: Embracing Mystical Visions” and
“White Supremacy’s Demise: A Necessary Death”
December 04 – Chapter 8 “Strategies for Survival: Living amid Death”
December 18 – Chapters 9 & 10 “Holy Saturday Silence: Waiting in the In-Between” and “Resurrection’s Dawn: A Step Toward Renewal”
Please fill out the respondent survey by Sunday 9/28, and Jason will send you an email or text with a Zoom link to join.
