Presentation of “The Talk” at Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church

‘More Than Neighbors’ group is a multi-racial multi-church group that we host at Mt. Sylvan UMC in alignment with the Race Equity and Justice focus of the United Methodist Church. This group meets to discuss the state of race relations in our community in the context of our shared Christian faith.
Members of our group attended a presentation of “The Talk” last year at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and have been moved to hold this production in the North Durham community.
If you have not heard about it before, “The Talk” is a one-man presentation that was created after the death of Freddie Gray and originated from “The Talk” that many African-American parents must have with their children regarding their interaction with police. However, it explores much more regarding the overall history of race relations in our country and across generations. We feel this is a worthy event to have and want to share the opportunity with as many people as possible, including other congregations and community organizations.
