A Taste of Academy

October 4 @ 6:00 pm October 5 @ 5:00 pm

The North Carolina 5-Day Academy for Spiritual Formation wants you to experience “A Taste of Academy”! Join us in October as we welcome the Rev. Dr. Donna Coltrane Battle for a time of learning, fellowship, and growth together.

Our topic for the event will be “Womanist Spirituality: A Peek at Deep Spiritual Practice in Shallow Times.” The spiritual focus of this retreat serves as an invitation to briefly explore the ways womanism helps us anchor amid uncertainty and chaos.  The experiences of Women of Color and Black women, in particular, offer a gift that cultivates subversive hope, challenges what we’ve called faith, and presses us to lay bare our whole selves before God.

We will gather at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC, on Friday, October 4, from 6:00-9:15 pm and Saturday, October 5, from 9:00 am-5:00 pm. The cost for the event is $60, which includes lunch on Saturday. Scholarships will be considered – please email nc5dayacademy@gmail.org to inquire.

Retreat Leader: Rev. Dr. Donna Coletrane Battle

Donna Coletrane Battle is a spiritual practitioner, soul coach, and educator focused on justice and healing as they relate specifically to the intersection of race, gender, and spirituality. Donna is a mother, wife, sister, and friend who also nurtures and coaches leaders, pastors those without a pastor, partners to cultivate healing in relationships, and commits every day to a life of being present, though not always successful!

She holds a BA in Public Relations from NC A&T State University, an MDiv from Duke University, and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Eastern University. Donna loves being restored by spending time with her family (both blood and spirit), reading, chilling outdoors, and engaging stories through all the many mediums they come.
