Assist in the development, coordination, and administration of the Ormond Center at Duke University Divinity School, a newly-(re)developed initiative whose mission is to foster the imagination, will, and ability of congregations and communities to be agents of thriving. We do this by equipping practitioners with the mindsets, skillsets, toolsets and soulsets needed to serve their field, place and neighbor.
The Ormond Center accomplishes this mission by marshaling the collective wisdom and knowledge of Duke Divinity School, the wider University and its many organizational and community partners in three key areas of concentration: (1) conducting pioneering translational research on the question of what it means and takes for congregations and their communities to thrive in contemporary settings, (2) catalyzing new pathways of learning and leadership formation through curricular and social practice innovation and (3) directly supporting local partners through capacity building and convening in the full range of communities Duke Divinity School serves.
This team member will be an experience project manager, detail-oriented administrator and community-building collaborator. This role requires proficiency in managing tasks, timelines and team members towards successful fulfillment of goals. It requires comfort with data management and effective use of technology platforms therein. Competitive candidates will be exceptional problem-solvers who work in dynamic environments and have a passion for and experience with faith-animated community impact. They will be able to collaborate with confidence and warmth both internally and externally, bringing together various stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.
The needs of this position are outlined below. This team member will fluctuate between center-wide data and administrative support and project-specific task and timeline management. This position will report to the Director of Strategic Development.
Administration and Coordination
Managing and coordinating the following:
- Team calendars and meetings
- Vendor acquisition, onboarding, and management
- Intern acquisition, onboarding, and management
- Organize and maintain digital and paper files
- Create purchase orders, process invoices, check request and honoraria
- Process travel reimbursements for contractors and vendors
- Duke University and Duke Divinity School policy, process, and reporting adherence
- In-person and virtual event oversight
Data Management and Systems
Developing and supporting the following:
- Center-wide CRM and other supporting data management technologies
- State-wide data collection tool (NC Roundtable)
- Project management tools and team adherence
- Effective data management on and across platforms and projects
- Process creation and management for center-wide efficiencies and alignment
- Grant and stakeholder reports
Immersive support of the following projects:
- Church and Community Placemaking Lab: 6-month cohort-based program for NC-based churches who want to leverage physical assets for community impact
- Placemaking Field Guide: comprehensive guide for faith-based placemaking, mapping the national and global field of those pioneering this work
- Community Craft Curriculum Digitization: online learning resource for universities, congregations and communities who want to generate meaningful social impact in their local contexts
- Community Craft Collaborative: cohorts of congregations in NC and SC who will participate in a shared Community Craft learning experience
- Other projects to be determined
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Experience working in and across diverse organizational contexts, especially those linking ideas to the wider public practice (e.g., working in think tanks or research centers or universities);
- Experience working in both diverse theological communities and Christian communities;
- Experience working in multiracial, multi-ethnic, and economically varied contexts;
- Demonstrated ability to turn ideas and strategies in detailed project tasks and timelines;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrated ability working with project management, CRM and supporting technologies;
- Demonstrated ability to create and manage processes and systems;
- Duke Financial systems and processes including: Concur, Buy@Duke, Check Requests
Working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word
- Comfort working in highly experimental and socially innovative environments;
- Comfort holding team members to deadlines;
- Able to anticipate problems before they arise and create solutions to those problems or new paths to accomplish set goals;
- Demonstrated experience taking a task from concept to implementation to evaluation;
- Comfort working juggling multiple tasks, deliverables, and deadlines at once;
- Comfort working collaboratively in teams.
- Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting standards and monitoring performance.
- Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.
- Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.
Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program.
