PURPOSE: Prepare oneself and the contemporary worship team for theologically sound, creative, spiritually fulfilling worship in a contemporary setting with the goal of engaging the congregation in singing and hearing God’s word through music.
DUTIES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan and coordinate all music for the contemporary worship services in collaboration with pastors and other staff, to present coherent, energetic worship experiences that flow smoothly and deliver an intentional and meaningful message.
2. Provide worship/music leadership in other occasional services such as, but not limited to, Christmas Eve, Lenten and Easter services, joint traditional/contemporary/Latino congregation services, funerals, etc.
3. Recruit, audition, rehearse, train, and direct a volunteer team of instrumentalists and singers in a welcoming manner with the goal of expanding the depth and the ability of the worship team.
4. Plan and lead weekly rehearsals with the music team to prepare for worship and expand the team’s repertoire of worship music.
6. Ensure copyright compliance and maintain licensing and reporting to CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International).
8. Collaborate with pastors and staff to plan worship.
9. Oversee musical equipment needs and coordinate upkeep and appropriate maintenance of musical equipment, including pianos in the Pryor-Bradford Center, drum kits/percussion equipment, and any other instruments/musical equipment utilized by the Praise Team and purchased/owned by the church.
10. Prepare an annual budget for contemporary worship needs, recognizing the overall needs of the church.
11. Collaborate with the A/V Streaming Coordinator to facilitate the maintenance and, if needed, appropriate ongoing upgrade, of the projection and audio hardware and software equipment utilized for contemporary worship in the Pryor-Bradford Center.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have a deep love of God as demonstrated by living a life of joy, integrity, prayer, spiritual strength, trustworthiness, patience, and kindness.
2. Possess strong musical gifts with the ability to faithfully lead a community of people in their participation in the worship of God.
3. Be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about music with the ability to play a lead instrument in the Praise Band. Understanding of music theory to integrate both sheet music and chord charts.
4. Have a speaking style that engages the congregation.
5. Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to create a worship experience through music that engages the congregation and encourages them to participate in worship through their own singing.
6. Understand and support Methodist doctrine.
7. Possess skills in conceptualizing, organizing, and leading a weekly worship service incorporating music, sound and stage lighting appropriate for the week’s worship theme
8. Graceful and competent leader who can develop and guide a music team in effective worship leadership
9. Support the church community with presence and attendance even when the Praise Team is not engaged in the worship service
10. Collaborate with multiple staff and lay persons cooperatively in preparing for worship and special services.
$20,000-$22,000 salary, depending upon experience and training
