Horne Memorial UMC is a thriving and growing church in downtown Clayton. Our Sunday morning worship schedule includes 9:00 traditional worship (which is also livestreamed) and 11:00 contemporary worship. Our organist/accompanist is typically responsible for the 9:00 hour music, in addition to special services during the year. Our energetic and creative staff is invested in the ministry of the church and our congregation is warm and welcoming! We are seeking an organist/accompanist to join the ministry of the church, with the following qualifications and responsibilities.
The Organist/Pianist of the church has the responsibility to support the total church program through cooperation, coordination, and communication with all other members of the ministry staff. This individual performs under the direction of the Director of Music. This position is part-time, salaried, and is supervised by the Senior Pastor. Hours are as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
- Is an accomplished musician, preferring a bachelor’s degree in music.
- Plays the organ and piano with technical skill, artistic ability, and spiritual sensitivity. Our organ is a digital 2-manual Allen, serviced regularly.
- Is an agent of change when needed, not a guardian of the status quo.
Responsibilities and Desired Outcomes:
- Perform music for traditional worship service(s) plus any special services as requested by the Director of Music or Pastor. Select and prepare prelude/postlude/offertory music including other musicians as appropriate based on the worship plans provided by the pastor. Accompany choir anthems on piano or organ. Lead congregation in hymns on organ or piano depending on the hymn.
- Participate in Worship Committee meetings as able, held 6 times per year.
- Rehearse as required in preparation for both regular and special services and programs. Choir rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Sunday morning warmup begins at 8:30.
- Is a member of the Handbell Choir (if able), which rehearses on Wednesday evenings and plays 4-5 times per year.
- Coordinate with Director of Music the care and maintenance of the organ and pianos.
- Weddings and funerals are at the discretion of the Organist. The organist has first right of refusal.
Salary range is $20,000-$22,000, based on experience.
