Director of Youth Ministries
Profile
A Christian leader, who with the help of the laity, will lead innovative youth ministry at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church. The youth director will be encouraged to be creative and innovative in their approach to youth ministry while carrying on traditions of the youth program, allowing fresh ideas to flourish.
Qualifications
A Christian committed to spiritual growth, a love of youth, and a call to youth ministry
Support and uphold the values of The United Methodist Church and Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church
Ability to work with all persons including youth parents and families
Experience in leadership, training, recruiting, and working with volunteers
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills including the managing of budgets, trips, and events
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Proficiency in use of technology, including social media, e-mail, and Microsoft Office
Ability to work flexible hours to be in ministry with youth and families
Accountability
This position will work in cooperation with and under the guidance of the pastor and the Staff-Parish Relations Team.
Report directly to the pastor for supervision
Receive annual evaluation from the Staff Parish Relations Team and pastor
Work in cooperation with the entire staff team
Responsible and subject to United Methodist polity and local church policies as determined by the Charge Conference, pastor, and Staff Parish Relations Team
Responsibilities
Live an active and faithful Christian life
Develop meaningful relationships with the youth, encouraging them to grow in faith and service.
Develop relationships with church members and community members
Be present during Sunday morning worship and other relevant church activities
Lead and direct weekly youth meetings on Sundays and Wednesday evenings
Be present in the lives of youth and families by attending community, school, and performance events
Be a liaison in communicating between the church and other relevant youth organizations
Attend weekly staff meetings
Develop the annual youth program of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church including discipleship, mission projects, retreats, and other special events
Develop and oversee youth volunteers who will lead the youth, and volunteer for retreats and mission-trips
Identify, equip, and mentor leaders within the youth program
Provide regular communication to youth and families through various outlets
Work with the finance team to develop an annual youth budget
Schedule and Working Hours
This is a part time position, requiring 30 flexible hours per week, including some night-time meetings, community events and Sunday work. Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church is committed to the practice of Sabbath keeping. A regular day off during the week will be provided.
Evaluation
The director will be reviewed after three months, and evaluated after six months by the pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Team. Afterwards, an annual evaluation will be made.

Compensation varies based on past experience and resume
Background Check
A background check is required of all paid staff members at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church and all employees will uphold the church’s Safe Sanctuaries Policy to protect children and other vulnerable individuals. A motor vehicle records check will be required of all staff and volunteers who drive any church vehicle.
