Job Summary
The Director of Youth Ministries will have primary responsibility for the Christian education of young people in the church in grades 6 through 12.
Key Responsibilities
● Supervise Sunday school for upper grades. Will recruit and prepare volunteer teachers for classes.
●In consultation with the Senior Pastor, will identify and obtain age-appropriate literature and other instructional materials.
● Conduct a weekly after-church program for young people with an appropriate mix of devotional and recreational activities.
● Plan periodic project with the church’s young people, including an annual mission trip or mission project.
● Assist the Director of Children’s Ministries with Vacation Bible School.
● Personally instruct young people in preparation for Confirmation into the United Methodist Church.
● Familiarize youth staff and volunteers with Safe Sanctuary guidelines and any existing COVID protocols, and will ensure compliance.
Requirements
– A capable educator
– Ability to recruit, to manage, and to motivate adult volunteers
– An ability to connect and to communicate with adolescents
– Comfort with public speaking
– CPR Certification
– Safe Sanctuary policy awareness
– Understanding of adolescent developmental needs
– A profession of Christian Faith and values, consistent with the beliefs and practices of the United Methodist Church. Knowledge of church history and beliefs and of the Methodist movement is preferred.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Maintain confidentiality regarding persons, plans and budget-sensitive information.
● Be accountable for church resources.
● Maintain a flexible schedule according to the needs of the Church Calendar and the Church’s mission.
● Attend monthly Administrative Council meetings.
● Confer regularly with the Senior Pastor, seeking direction on work responsibilities. Confer regularly with the Children’s Director to coordinate activities.
● Meet periodically with the Family Council and seek input from parents.
● Submit to an annual evaluation.
● Seek opportunities to train and to grow professionally.
Formal Education Required (Desired):
An associate or bachelor’s degree in Christian education or education is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
