WORK SCHEDULE: Approximate total of 40 hours per week
COMPENSATION SCHEDULE: Biweekly
POSITION SUMMARY
Cypress Lake United Methodist Church is a large worshiping community in the Southwest District of the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Church is blessed with a talented lay leadership team and an exciting staff, which includes the position of Director of Family Ministries. The Director reports to the Associate Pastor and is responsible for building upon
current attendance numbers through proven recruitment strategies and administering the youth and children’s ministries at the church. The Director will work with the pastoral team, staff, and
laity to achieve the mission and vision of the church. Specific responsibilities include overall development, planning, and implementation of an engaging ministry for children and youth from
birth through twelfth grade, including the selection of curriculum, activity planning, and implementation of special events. The Director must be skilled at recruiting, training, empowering,
and supervising a large laity servant leadership team to accomplish these responsibilities. The Director also must be committed to forming lasting, impactful relationships with parents and
caregivers, also guiding them in their journeys as parents and disciples.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Evaluate, select, and implement weekly curriculum to include hands-on learning experiences, including procurement of any needed supplies for teachers/facilitators from ages birth through 12th grade.
• Recruit, train, empower, supervise, and provide resources for laity servant leaders serving in the area of ministry and its special events.
• Ascertain need for nursery coverage for infants during services and programming and staff with existing pool of nursery workers.
• Coordinate camps and mission trips for children and youth.
• Develop and implement an effective church-parent communication system, including mass emails, social media accounts, device applications (apps) and/or text programs.
• Lead fundraising efforts as directed by pastoral staff, including the annual pumpkin patch.
• With pastoral staff, facilitate instruction for youth confirmation on an annual basis, and follow up with confirmands and parents/guardians to encourage continued involvement.
• Prepare children’s baptism certificates and follow up with parents/guardians to encourage continued involvement.
• Serve as staff liaison to Bright Beginnings Early School to promote spiritual formation and discipleship opportunities, including but not limited to chapel, with the students while working also to strengthen the partnership and attendance between the staff and families and the church.
• Coordinate with staff and laity to plan and implement family-focused events, not only for those currently attending and in programs, but to include community and school outreach to grow the programs.
• Prepare the annual programmatic budget request.
• Attend weekly staff and ministry team meetings.
• Maintain files and digital records of attendance for children and families.
• Ensure compliance with the Child Protection Policy, including verification volunteers working
with children have a current acceptable background check on file and have completed
annual training.
• In the absence of youth ministry staff,
o Assume responsibility for youth ministry.
• In the absence of children’s ministry staff,
o Assume responsibility for children’s ministry.
o Plan and conduct the Third Grade Bible ceremony.
o Serve as director of Vacation Bible School.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION:
Educational, Background & Experience Requirements:
• Professing Christian;
• Bachelor’s degree in Children’s Ministry, Education, or related field required;
• Experience in providing Christian-based education for children or youth, with experience in a United Methodist Church preferred;
• Experience in growing church programs for children or youth.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
• Salary starting at $50,000, commensurate upon experience.
