Statistician’s Report
Rev. Dennis Peay, Conference Statistician, presented the Statistician’s Report Saturday morning, providing insight into the trends for local church worship attendance, participation in ministries, and giving.
The tables in the report reflect the story of 525 churches that reported membership, expenditures, and stewardship in 2023. The report can be found on pages 33 and 34 in the Conference Workbook. The final version of the report will be published in the Conference Journal.
Peay celebrated the faithful work of 439 churches in the NC Conference, representing 145,899 United Methodists, who make up an average in-person worship attendance of 28,514. In the past year:
- We celebrated 855 baptisms
- $1,296,638 was given toward United Methodist Men’s projects, and $590,259 was given toward United Women in Faith projects
- 4,166 youth participated in United Methodist Youth ministries
- 474 people worked with United Methodist Volunteers in Mission
- $513,140 was given to UMCOR, United Methodist Missionaries, and the Advance, helping to fund the ministry and people who make ministry possible across the world
- The year closed with 446 churches paying out $9,541,764 in apportionments
Peay encouraged churches to begin working this summer with membership secretaries and care teams to audit their membership books; and finance and stewardship teams to review, update, and create procedures for making reporting easier in January.
At the conclusion of the report, Peay shared that the Tables will open in early January 2025 and encouraged leaders to reach out with any questions. “Stats Tell Stories – let’s make yours count.”
