Purpose:
The Coordinator of Children’s Ministry will provide programming, mission, and ministry opportunities to our children. They should inspire and encourage each child to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and to desire a personal relationship with God
Qualifications:
For the position, Fairmont UMC is looking for an individual who
is a devoted Christian who exhibits a sincere and committed faith and serves as a role model for children,
possesses and demonstrates love and respect for all children,
has a strong background working with children,
is welcoming and accepting of all children and their parents,
is well-organized and prepared, and
is a flexible team player.
The candidate selected for the position will be required to pass a background check in compliance with Safe Sanctuaries policies.
Responsibilities:
The Coordinator for Children’s Ministry is expected to:
Work part time (average of approximately 5 hours/week).
Create and maintain a warm and inclusive environment for all children by modeling Fairmont’s values of radical hospitality and unconditional acceptance.
Use positive, affirming, and effective classroom and behavioral management.
Employ Safe Sanctuaries policies and procedures for all activities and volunteers.
Plan and lead weekly and special activities for children, including
Children’s Church during Sunday morning worship
Palm Sunday procession
Easter egg hunt
Christmas caroling
Christmas pop-up pageant
Trunk or Treat
Quarterly parent’s nights out, and
Plan and lead Camp Live Differently (our Vacation Bible School) one week each summer (Monday through Thursday about 3-4 hrs/day).
Coordinate and work with volunteers for children’s church, Camp Live Differently, and other special activities.
Encourage parent and adult leadership with the children’s ministry.
Develop relationships with the children and parents.
Recruit parents and children into the children’s ministry.
Maintain regular and effective communications with parents, children, and the pastor.
Consult regularly and coordinate activities with the Pastor.
Work with the Children’s Committee in long-range planning.
Attend Fairmont UMC.
Attend the Children’s Committee and Church Council meetings to report on the children’s ministry.
Attend children’s ministry leadership training and enrichment as directed by the Pastor.
Salary:
This is an at-will, salaried position, which does not include benefits. Beginning annual salary is $5,896.80. Conditions of employment, compensation, and related matters are reviewed on a yearly basis and at other times deemed necessary by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Supervision:
The Coordinator of Children’s Ministry reports to and is supervised directly by the Pastor. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee oversees church employees.
Performance Review:
Performance is reviewed annually and as needed by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
