The Anti-Greed Gospel Workshop with Dr. Malcolm Foley

March 21 @ 9:00 am 3:00 pm

Clergy and laity are invited to attend a day-long, in-person work session with Dr. Malcolm Foley, focused on How the Church Can Create a New Way Forward.

Participants in the book study reflect on that experience:

“Dr. Malcolm Foley’s important and timely work, Anti-Greed Gospel, speaks directly to both our past and our present realities. It offers a careful historical analysis of how greed helped form and sustain a racialized economy, establishing patterns of exploitation, violence, and dehumanization that continue to shape much of our contemporary economic life. Yet Dr. Foley does more than diagnose the problem. He provides a framework and a compelling portrait of the work required of those who seek to live in the Way of Christ—work that moves counter to these realities and toward equity, justice, and Beloved Community. I have used this important work alongside other resources, facilitations, and trainings in the work of building peace and engaging the intentional, necessary discipling work of anti-racism. It has proven to be a profound and essential resource for communities seeking to follow Christ in practices of justice, truth, and transformation.” -Home Missioner, Steve Taylor

“Dr. Foley’s book, The Anti Greed Gospel:  Why the Love of Money Is the Root of Racism and How the Church Can Create a New Way Forward, offers new learnings, challenges old assumptions, and inspires the church to “do the work” of moving forward as the beloved community. After engaging with Dr. Foley’s book for the past few weeks, I look forward to learning more with Dr. Foley when he leads us in person at Camp Ground UMC on March 21.” – District Superintendent David Blackman

“If you are not quite sure if a study on anti-racism is necessary, or worthwhile, find the book “The Anti-Greed Gospel by Malcolm  Foley” and take time to read it. As Christians, we need to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. It will not only open your eyes, it will open doors, and answer questions you never thought to ask yourself about racism.” – Sara Cameron

“Excellent and is emotionally challenging. Dr. Foley does an excellent job delving into the horrors of racism as a product of human greed. At times gut-wrenching, yet Dr. Foley’s love of God and hope challenge the reader to address the issue in the way of Christ’s Sermon on the Mount. If this book doesn’t deeply change your way of looking at the world, then you didn’t pay attention.” – Rev. P. Kelly Barr

“As a Pastor in The United Methodist Church, I welcome this study, because it is a need for all Christians. We as Christians need help to break free from the bondages that are a drag on our spiritual life. The truth is what sets us free. Dr. Foley has done the research, and he shows us in the scriptures that we have fallen short of God’s Glory. I love reading this book. I am glad to be a part of this study. Thanks, Dr. Foley, for a great book.” – Tom
