Communications Audit: Increase Online Presence, Deepen Community Engagement

Posted on

Using her own design, The Church Communications Audit Workbook: A Practical Guide to Help Any Church Close the Gap Between Ministry and Visibility, Rev. Jenifer Anne Swindell led participants through a step-by-step audit of their current communication tools.

Rev. Swindell is an ordained Deacon in Full Connection in the NC Conference, and she currently serves as Pastor of Evangelism and Communications at North Raleigh United Methodist Church.

She reminded participants that they don’t need a communication staff or a big budget to be effective in sharing the good news. Her audit workbook ”covers every area of church communications from Google Business Profile to photos to email security, leading with free tools first and grounding every strategy in a simple truth: God is already at work in the people around your church, and your job is to be findable when they come looking.”

Each section of the workbook explains why the tool is helpful, how to use it, and even provides detailed instructions on how to access many of them for free. For example, in the Photos section, the “why” is because people need to see themselves in your church before they will visit. The “how” includes easy ways to take better pictures and how to create folders to present and organize images.
