What To Do In A Mental Health Crisis: Strengthening Faith-Based Responses (NC Council of Churches)
February 24 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
People experiencing mental health crises often find themselves in one of three places: hospitals, jails, or churches. Faith communities are uniquely positioned as trusted, accessible spaces where care, understanding, and connection can begin. This webinar invites faith leaders and community members to build skills and confidence in responding compassionately and effectively when someone is in crisis. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of crisis, offer supportive presence, and connect individuals to appropriate resources, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Featured Speakers include
- Martha Brown, board-certified chaplain and United Church of Christ clergy with expertise in interpersonal communication and community education.
- Dr. Tobias E. LaGrone, Senior Pastor, licensed clinician, and NCDHHS Community Outreach and Faith-Based Coordinator with over 30 years of leadership in behavioral health and addiction prevention.
- Shela Williams-Stacey, MSW, LCSW, LCAS, CSI, Mobile Crisis Regional Director for Guilford County, with more than three decades of experience in crisis prevention and trauma-informed care.
Together, we will explore how churches can be part of a broader network of care, ensuring dignity, support, and hope in moments of need.
