$ A Mystic for our Time: Etty Hillesum and Safekeeping the Holy (NC Institute for Spiritual Direction and Formation)

Transformed by an opening to God in the early years of WWII, the Dutch Jew Etty Hillesum voluntarily went to a Nazi transit camp to serve the thousands concentrated there. She witnessed to the presence and gift of the Holy even in those unimaginable circumstances. In a time of chaos and destruction in our own country, when cruelty and fraud are ascendant, Etty points us credibly to a life with the Holy in which souls are kept and deepened, purpose is clarified, joy can be had, and compassion can flow.
