Donation Policy

The NC Conference Media Center is grateful for donations from pastors, laity, and local churches that have added to the Media Center collection and made resources available to the entire conference at no cost. The Media Center offers this donation policy to continue living into effective stewardship of conference resources, including books, DVDs, curricula, and time.

When books, DVDs, and curricula are donated to the Media Center, they end up in one of four places:

  1. Added to the Media Center collection. These items generally meet these criteria:
    • Resources not in the collection that are current and of interest to users.
    • Additional copies of study participant books or other resources in high demand.
    • These resources cannot be damaged, and the books cannot have writing or highlights.
  2. Placed on the free table in the Media Center or at Annual Conference. Resources that are usually picked up from the free table include:
    • Current books on church leadership and Christian living.
    • United Methodist and other popular Christian Bible studies that fit United Methodist theology.
    • Current youth and children’s curricula.
    • Contemporary commentaries in good condition.
    • Bibles in good condition.
  3. Donated to the Prison Alliance or the public library. Items received in the Media Center that do not fit into the categories above include:
    • Outdated books and DVDs not of interest to users.
    • Bible studies and books that do not fit United Methodist theology and are not of interest to Media Center users.
    • Fiction books.
  4. Recycled or thrown away.
    • Damaged items.
    • Magazines and periodicals.
    • Curriculum kits not of interest to users.
    • Outdated quarterly curricula.
    • VHS tapes and other outdated media.

Donations can be dropped off at the NC Conference Media Center at 700 Waterfield Ridge Place in Garner, Monday-Thursday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. If you are unsure whether your materials meet the donation policy criteria, please contact the librarian, Laura Dallas, at ldallas@nccumc.org or 984-257-0981. Please do not bring donations to Annual Conference. They need to be sorted at the NC Conference Media Center in Garner first.

When donating to the Media Center, please keep the criteria above in mind. If you have items that are not of interest to Media Center users, please donate them to other organizations directly to be more efficient stewards of our time and resources.
