Raising Concerns, Making Complaints: A Conversation about Options for Addressing Harm (General Commission on the Status and Role of Women)
December 9, 2025 @ 1:00 pm
At GCSRW, we regularly hear from people who have concerns about mistreatment that they want to be taken seriously, even if they don’t want to make a formal complaint. Likewise, we work with church and conference leaders who receive concerns and complaints but are unsure how to respond, especially in a trauma-informed manner.
During this conversation, we will explore options for reporting and response that can open more possibilities for repair and accountability. Together, we’ll discuss:
- What are a person’s options when they have a potential complaint?
- What is the complaint process?
- What might it look like to take concerns and complaints seriously?
- What does “fair process” mean?
Join Rev. Dr. Tyler Schwaller, Director of Sexual Ethics, facilitated by Rev. Kelli Hitchman-Craig, Director of Leadership Development & Community Engagement, for a time of learning and Q&A, focused on options for addressing concerns and complaints within the UMC, with particular attention to sexual misconduct and gender discrimination.
