Bridge the gap between learning about injustice and taking action.
Many of us in the North Carolina Conference are familiar with the powerful book, Healing Haunted Histories: A Settler Discipleship of Decolonization by Elaine Enns and Ched Myers. The process in this book invites settler Christians into a discipleship of decolonization. How are our histories, landscapes, and communities haunted by continuing Indigenous dispossession? How do we transform our colonizing self-perceptions, lifeways, and structures? And how might we practice restorative solidarity with Indigenous communities today?
Facilitating the work of Healing Haunted Histories, a new ten-session curriculum is available for small groups. Throughlines invites Christians to confront the ghosts of settler colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and white supremacy in their own family histories. NC Conference Home Missioner Steve Taylor was involved in creating this curriculum to continue the work of Healing Haunted Histories in a small-group format. Steve is the former Director of Connectional Ministries in the NC Conference and is currently the Director of Antiracist Discipleship and Beloved Community at The Church at Spring Forest UMC in Hillsborough.
Designed for in-person or virtual groups, this fully digital and downloadable package includes a facilitator’s guide, participant workbook, and recorded videos. This is an excellent resource for small-group study and Sunday school programs.
