Extension Ministry Spotlight: General Board of Higher Education and Ministry

Trip Lowery

Welcome to our series that spotlights NC Conference pastors serving in extension ministries. Read about other extension ministers as these stories are published weekly.

Rev. Dr. Trip Lowery

Rev. Dr. Trip Lowery serves as the Associate General Secretary of Theological Education and Clergy Formation for the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). He serves this remote position while living in Kitty Hawk, NC. Trip is a native of Myrtle Beach, SC, “married up” to Eileen, and has two daughters, Katelynn and Savannah. Before serving GBHEM, he taught high school math and science, played professional soccer, worked in a surf shop, and pastored churches in NC (not all at the same time). He can solve a Rubik’s Cube, make balloon animals, and shaved off one eyebrow on accident…three times.

General Board of Higher Education and Ministry

The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry is one of our thirteen denominational agencies. It operates in areas of educational and ministerial formation, providing support to individuals and organizations who help others discern who God is calling them to be and what next steps are available for them to pursue that call. Rev. Dr. Lowery’s ministry setting primarily relates to the processes, resources, and relationships connected to theological education and clergy formation.

A Leader Forming Ministry

GBHEM works toward a world where everyone is living fully into God’s call on their life by bringing people together to discern, learn, and lead for the church and the academy. Rev. Dr. Lowery’s work focuses on the vocational discernment, theological preparation, credentialing, and continued formation of clergy and lay leadership.
